ROB ZOMBIE Bassist Putting Finishing Touches On Solo Debut
April 18, 2007ROB ZOMBIE/ex-AMEN/WEDNESDAY 13 bassist Matt Montgomery (a.k.a. Piggy D.) is putting the finishing touches on his debut solo album, tenatively titled "The Evacuation Plan". Piggy enlisted Dave Spreng (VALIENT THOR, DAMONE) to handle the engineering/co-production duties. "Dave is a song guy, he has great ear for what works and what doesn't he is really helping me get the most out of these songs," Piggy said in a statement. Veteran rock producer Mudrock (AVENGED SEVENFOLD, GODSMACK, ALICE COOPER) is set to mix the effort.
Production on the album originally began in January with Tommy Clufetos (ROB ZOMBIE, ex-ALICE COOPER) playing drums on all 15 tracks. "After playing together so much last year, we really locked in and got it done pretty quick," Piggy said. "He did an amazing job."
The CD's title and concept came about during Piggy's evacuation from New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina. "It seems liked everything in my life came down around the same time," he recalled. "I was forced re-evaluate everything about myself and the decisions I was making. This entire record is pages from a diary I kept during that time. Song like 'Roll Call' are commentaries on watching the people of New Orleans get left behind. This is the most personal thing I have ever done musically, and I just wanna share it."
On the subject of touring, Piggy does not plan to take this project on the road any time soon. "My band priority is ZOMBIE. The band really feels like a home and I can't wait to hit the road with the boys again and kick some ass! I wanted to get this record done and out in our down time."
You can hear the home demo versions of a few songs and see pictures from the sessions at this location. A summer release is expected.
Piggy D runs a custom rock 'n' clothing company that donates proceeds to the Habitat for Humanity Musicians Village, an organization that builds housing for displaced musicians in New Orleans.
